Stewart House School, operated by the NSW Department of Education, is located on site at 22 Ellen Street, Curl Curl.
The school comprises 6 multi aged classes with spectacular views of Curl Curl beach from each classroom. The school day commences at 9am and concludes at 3.30pm.
The school program focuses on wellbeing outcomes and offers a range of activities and opportunities for students to develop social skills in a safe and supported environment. On alternate days, three classes go out on an excursion and the remaining three classes spend the day on site involved in a range of activities.
Major excursion venues include Sydney Olympic Park, Taronga Zoo and the Powerhouse Museum. In addition, parks, reserves, and beach pools are visited along the Northern Beaches.
At school the students participate in a wide range of activities including visual and creative arts such as pottery, painting and drawing, team games and sports, beach play, drumming, relaxation, meditation and mindfulness.
Aboriginal education is an important focus and all students have the opportunity to participate in Aboriginal dance and Dreamtime sessions with our Aboriginal Education Officer.
Life Education offers regular sessions for each student during their stay and with our recent upgrade, we now have a range of iPad applications to engage our students in visual literacy tasks. The children also participate in a surf education program provided by Surf Life Saving Northern Beaches.
Our daily assemblies provide opportunities to reinforce wellbeing messages, to acknowledge student achievements and to celebrate special events including students’ birthdays, ANZAC day, NAIDOC week, Harmony day and White Ribbon day.
